How Transcendental Meditation is taught and what it costs
Free Introductory Talks are a first opportunity to learn how Transcendental Meditation works, how it differs from other systems of meditation and what its benefits are. See the Home Page for the date of the next Introductory Talk. The first opportunity to take personal instruction is usually the first Saturday following the talk. The talk provides all the information you need before learning Transcendental Meditation. The teacher will answer questions. You are welcome to bring friends and family. There is no commitment. Afterwards, you can arrange to learn or you can give it further thought. Talks last about an hour and a half.
Transcendental Meditation is taught by a qualified teacher accredited by Maharishi Vedic Institute. The course consists of seven steps. The Introductory Talk (first step) is followed by an interview in private with the teacher - an opportunity to discuss personal circumstance and reasons for learning. Personal instruction (third step), usually on the Saturday following the talk, lasts about an hour and a half, during which you experience the Transcendental Meditation technique for the first time, meditate for the first time on your own, and leave capable of practising TM in your own home. The technique is normally practised for 15-20 minutes morning and evening.
Steps 4, 5 and 6 are group meetings, usually on consecutive days after personal instruction, each lasting 1-2 hours. They help you to gain maximum benefit from your practice. The first meeting verifies correct, effortless practice and gives further instruction. The second explains the mechanics of stress release during meditation and the third gives an understanding of higher stages of human development. Group meditations take place at each of these meetings, conducted by the teacher, and short instructional DVDs are shown. Questions are answered by the teacher. Meeting times can usually be varied to suit the group or individuals.
The seventh step takes place a week later, also with questions answered, a group meditation and a short DVD. This is an opportunity to assess the benefits in everyday life of regular practice of the TM technique.
Thereafter, there is unlimited free follow-up at weekly meetings, mostly Thursday evenings. These meetings help to deepen both experience and understanding. Free personal checking is available at any time during the course or afterwsrds.
Besides weekly meetings there are weekends away and other activities. You grow at your own pace.
